Hear from Heritage Language Class Students

The minds of children are a wonder.

Though many immigrant and refugee children move to the U.S. speaking little to no English, thanks to the gift that is a sponge-like child's brain and their immersion in school, they often learn to speak English at a rapid speed.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case for their caregivers, creating a barrier between what once connected them so seamlessly - their shared heritage language.

This is one of the many reasons we established our Heritage Language Classes - to support the relationships of immigrant and refugee children and their caregivers.

Additionally, the classes help students to:

  • Maintain their heritage language

  • Feel more connected to and proud of their culture

  • Feel empowered to speak their language if/when they visit their home country

And who better to tell you about the classes than the students themselves?
